Enabling Your Business Through Technology

How Secure is my Business?

Security covers a broad range of services from patching, anti-(virus/spyware/malware) to physical security, which is often over looked.

There are customer or patient records that need to be protected due to SOX/PCI/HIPAA regulations.

Security also protects the heart of  your network by preventing attacks.  If your PC is crippled due to viruses or your internet bandwidth is clogged due to a new worm, you’re not getting much work done.

Make your employee aware of security risk such as surfing unknown internet sites and locking doors to critical areas such as customer files.

What to look for?

There are too many points to cover security     extensively, so we will hit some key items.

· PC’s should be set to automatically update, including application patches? The exception to this is if you have custom applications on your pc.  All patches should be tested on a non production system.  Instruction for enabling Windows automatic updates can be found for XP and Vista.

· Does every device (not just windows pc’s) have antivirus installed and auto-updated?  There are several good antivirus packages.  If you need a recommendation, please e-mail me.  I can also tell you what not to use.

· If you have wireless, is it secure? Here are some setup instructions.

· Do you have a firewall that can limit access of files, applications, IM and websites?  This can prevent harmful downloads.

If you answered no to more than two of these, follow the links for instructions or call a tech.
